MAGNICOMP'S NEW SYSINFO[tm] 4.2 DELIVERS MOST COMPREHENSIVE SYSTEM INFORMATION FOR UNIX/LINUX IT ENVIRONMENTS

Comprehensive UNIX/Linux Tool Delivering System Information, Asset Information, Disaster Recovery Information, and Enterprise Environment Automation

SAN JOSE, CA -- May 7, 2002 -- MagniComp today announced the availability of SysInfo[tm] 4.2, its next major version of its popular product for providing IT personnel with comprehensive system information for most major UNIX and Linux platforms. New features in this release, such as the new Graphical User Interface (GUI), and significantly improved hardware information, allow System Administrators to quickly and easily obtain highly detailed information about the systems they manage. With these enhancements, MagniComp continues to build upon its world-class SysInfo[tm] product and now offers an IT solution for small to large enterprise environments.

Additional new features in this release include up to 70% performance improvement in the speed of hardware information retrieval, a 10X increase to over 8,300 in the number of recognized PCI devices, improved installation from a new self-extracting distribution file format, and the newly added printer information class. Enhancements to data output formating includes support for HTML and the ability to format output in column and row format.

"With this release, SysInfo continues to mature on multiple fronts such as ease of use with our new GUI as well as continuing to build on our 10 years of UNIX and Linux operating system and hardware knowledge base," said Michael Cooper, President and CTO of MagniComp. "The new SysInfo GUI provides an excellent means of browsing the deep details of system information, while the Command Line Interface (CLI) has continued to grow offering System Administrators near feature parity with the GUI."

Applications of SysInfo

  • System configuration at a glance. You can quickly see what the hardware and software configuration is. Very useful when a System Administrator is trouble-shooting a system problem.
  • Hardware problem diagnostics. You can quickly see what hardware is present and how it's configured.
  • Asset information collection. You can quickly and automatically extract detailed hardware and software asset information from all of your Unix/Linux based systems. That information can then be placed in a central file repository or fed into a database using command line output or the Perl API or the C API.
  • Disaster Recovery preparation. You can store all the vital system configuration information you need in the event you need to recover from a disaster. SysInfo can tell you much of the critical information you need to reconstruct your infrastructure systems. You can extract detailed hardware, software, and system configuration data and store it in a central file repository or feed it into a database using command line output, the Perl API, or the C API.
  • Cross-platform scripting. SysInfo is a great foundation tool for building your multi-platform scripts and programs on. SysInfo eliminates the need for your scripts and programs to know all the OS specific details of how to obtain the information you need. This can lead to much faster development time and reduce support costs through standardization of your tool set.
