Platform Specific Notes

Table 2.2. Platform Specific Notes

HP-UX
  • If you are running HP-UX 11.00 you must install a current HP Quality Pack or else the SysInfo™ Agent will not work. To obtain a current QP from HP, please visit http://www.esca.hp.com/us/.

MacOS X
  • The SysInfo™ GUI requires that you have Apple's X11 package (in older MacOS releases this is called X11 User for OS X) installed prior to installing SysInfo™. These packages are not part of MacOS X 10.1 - 10.2 and must be downloaded from Apple at http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx. On MacOS X 10.3 and later, this package is located on the MacOS X installation disc, but is usually not installed by default.

  • SysInfoPrinter class data is supported on MacOS X 10.2 or later. It is not supported on earlier releases.

FreeBSD
  • FreeBSD 5.0 and 5.1 are not supported due to bugs in the OS provided stdarg wide string functions like vswprintf().

VMware ESX
  • SysInfo™ can be installed directly on VMware ESX because it is a Linux based operating system. Install either the SysInfo™ Linux distribution for 32-bit/x86 or 64-bit/x64. To gain access to ESX to install SysInfo™, access the system console and login as user "root". Once logged in, edit /etc/ssh/sshd_config and add the line PermitRootLogin yes. Then run /etc/init.d/sshd reload. You can then remotely log into the ESX server via ssh.

Windows
  • On Windows XP x64 SP1, SysInfo™ will not report much, if any data due to significant bugs in the Windows bundled DLLs. This problem is fixed by applying a current set of Microsoft Security Updates via Microsoft Update, Windows Update, or manually. The exact update which fixes these problems is not known.
