MAGNICOMP'S NEW SYSINFO[tm] 5.0 EXTENDS ENTERPRISE SYSTEM INFORMATION FOR UNIX/LINUX/MAC ENVIRONMENTS

Comprehensive UNIX/Linux/Mac Tool and Agent Now Delivers Embedded Agent and Adds Mac OS X Support

SAN JOSE, CA -- July 14, 2003 -- MagniComp today announced the availability of SysInfo[tm] 5.0, its next major version of its popular product for providing IT personnel with comprehensive system information for most major UNIX and Linux platforms. Amoung the many new features in this release, support for Apple's Mac OS X platform has been added bringing SysInfo's unique ability to deliver highly detailed system information to Apple's popular Macintosh line.

"Support for Mac OS X has been our number one customer request for new platform support," said Michael Cooper, President and CTO of MagniComp. "SysInfo's ability to provide deep, normally hidden data to organizations is an invaluable aid to IT organizations supporting Macs."

One significant new feature of 5.0 is a new agent which can provide remote access to all SysInfo data over a standard TCP/IP connection. "The ability to obtain highly detailed system information on a system anywhere in a large enterprise is invaluable to large Fortune 500 companies," said Michael Cooper. "All of our large customers have many thousands of diverse systems dispersed around the world. The new SysInfo agent allows them to instantly query any one of those systems to precisely view nearly any type of system data."

This release adds significant new classes of available data including: the new License Information class reports on Macrovision's FLEXlm software licenses found on a system, the new Network Information class which provides detailed information on a system's network configuration including DNS and NIS, and the new Network Interface class which provides highly detailed information about physical and virtual network interfaces on a system.

"SysInfo's already deep pool of system data is significantly widened by the addition of these new types of system information," said Michael Cooper. "Our customers can now quickly and easily identify what software licenses they have and use that information to optimize license usage to reduce their software costs."

Applications of SysInfo

  • System configuration at a glance. You can quickly see what the hardware and software configuration is. Very useful when a System Administrator is trouble-shooting a system problem.
  • Hardware problem diagnostics. You can quickly see what hardware is present and how it's configured.
  • Asset information collection. You can quickly and automatically extract detailed hardware and software asset information from all of your Unix/Linux/Mac based systems. That information can then be placed in a central file repository or fed into a database using command line output or the Perl API or the C API.
  • Disaster Recovery preparation. You can store all the vital system configuration information you need in the event you need to recover from a disaster. SysInfo can tell you much of the critical information you need to reconstruct your infrastructure systems. You can extract detailed hardware, software, and system configuration data and store it in a central file repository or feed it into a database using command line output, the Perl API, or the C API.
  • Cross-platform scripting. SysInfo is a great foundation tool for building your multi-platform scripts and programs on. SysInfo eliminates the need for your scripts and programs to know all the OS specific details of how to obtain the information you need. This can lead to much faster development time and reduce support costs through standardization of your tool set.
