MagniComp Announces SysInfo 10 Product Release

MagniComp announces the release of SysInfo 10, an IT Asset Management discovery agent, with major new features including a free Software Tag Maker.

San Jose, CA January 25, 2011 MagniComp™ announces the General Availability release of SysInfo™ 10, an IT Asset Management discovery agent, with major new features including support for ISO 19770-2 software tags, a new Java API, improved and enhanced XML output, and software license discovery on Microsoft Windows platforms. In addition to these new features, new platforms are also now supported including AIX 7.1 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.

Details of this release include introducing support for discovering ISO 19770-2 conformant software tag files. Software products that conform to this standard will install a software tag file during installation, which describes the software. SysInfo will automatically detect this file and provide the results as part of its normal Software report.

SysInfo’s industry leading ITAM discovery is now even easier to integrate on an OEM basis, using the new Java API for SysInfo introduced with this release. The API supports access to all SysInfo data classes from any local system or over the network from any system with the SysInfo product installed. This API allows Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to easily embed SysInfo in their own products. Enterprise IT organizations also benefit by having an easy to use API to integrate with their own databases, reporting, and processes.

Enhanced XML output encoding is also provided in this release. The new encoding is more extensible and parsable. An XSD schema file is provided to allow third-party tools to more easily parse SysInfo's XML output.

Free Software Tag Maker

SysInfo 10 supports ISO 19770-2 Software Tags, and now anyone can create a Software Tag using MagniComp's free Software Tag Maker™ at http://www.magnicomp.com/cgi-bin/mcswtagmaker.cgi. Software Tag files are used by IT Asset Management (ITAM) and Software Asset Management (SAM) products like MagniComp’s SysInfo 10 to discover what software is installed on a computer and the details of that product. MagniComp's Software Tag Maker allows the user to create ISO 19770-2 conformant software tag files, which can be included with a software package for sale or distribution. Any ISO 19770-2 conformant discovery tool should be able to read and report on Software Tags created by Software Tag Maker.

Licensing

SysInfo is licensed on both a direct basis to companies of all sizes, as well as on an OEM basis for integration with commercial products. Current direct customers with existing licenses for prior versions must obtain a new license for SysInfo 10. License upgrades are available for free with a valid Maintenance Agreement or at a 50% discount without one. New customers can run this latest release in demo mode with full functionality for 30 days.
